There is so much valuable information in this book that I recommend it be read in its entirety. In fact, the content is so vast that it is difficult to discuss only a few areas in a book review. Upon recently re-reading this manual, I was struck by it being very applicable to my current goals and interests.

Throughout this manual, the author, Dr. Judith McLean, first gives well-informed thoughts on chapter topics and then often applies them to her personal experiences. It is this latter part that I found was just as intriguing as the first. You may think this is just a basic new age book on spirituality. However, the content is complex at times and deserves careful scrutiny to ascertain its many meanings.

Chapter 9 on Self-Protection Practices especially helped me because I am a sensitive person and my aura happens to be fairly permeable. Thus, it is important for me to use protection on myself and the Cleansing Ritual described in this chapter is of great assistance to me now. Perusing the book has reminded me about psychic attack. Reading Dr. McLean's writings reminded me that I do have my own rescue team and can call upon them whenever I need help. Also, this same chapter contained some beneficial information for my practice as a massage therapist. Her advice to not "Feel responsible for making the client well" nor "Take on the emotional burden of the client" is good advice for me on the job.

Discernment was another important chapter for me. Admittedly, I have not been a discerning person most of the time. I usually jump right into something without first testing the waters. I believe Dr. McLean has a valid point about judging the truth on esoteric topics and paranormal experiences. Using my intuition has been my operational mode. But, the author describes eight other "Socially and culturally known methods" to use in discernment. Intuition is the last method described - although I don't think it is the least in Dr. McLean's mind.

Another very interesting way to discern is the Iroquois Rule of Six. (This was my second most preferred discerning method she describes.) It is about not seeing things in "Black or white," "Heaven or hell," "This way or that way." This author goes o to talk about life having many gray areas and there are at least "Six different explanations for any phenomena." Dr. McLean states, "Although six alternative explanations (or a higher number of alternatives) may be considered, an individual generally settles on the concept that is either most familiar to them or seemingly is most reasonable." This method is new to me. But, I am excited to try it out!

Reading about the author's spontaneous kundalini experience was very relevant to me. A similar thing happened in my life and although it lasted over several months time, the kundalini had risen in me and left myself with more clairvoyance and some clairaudience. I was also in a mental institution afterwards for 10 days. A bi-polar and psychosis diagnoses were given to me and it has taken 13 years to recover. After 2 more hospital stays, I have recently gained stability and balance through adjustments in prescription medications and natural health recommendations from a naturopathic doctor along with regularly seeing a counselor.

Other things that assisted me in the last 13 years are the very ones Dr. McLean lists in Chapter 9: self-protection of the mental body through positive thinking, not gossiping, seeing the good in others, journaling, cognitive therapy, affirmation of union with others and life, meditation, mantras and uplifting music. I have also used the laws of magnetic attraction through watching the video of The Secret and reading that book. Another writing that has helped me is Spiritual Emergency by Stanislov and Christina Grof. Dr. Mclean mentions both of these things.

Furthermore, I appreciated the author's thoughts on the power of prayer. She discusses older views saying that God actually hears our prayers and a newer perspective on God being consciousness, "Aware of the energy patterns set up by human desire." She does say, "If the desire is within the harmony of life and the laws of the Universe, the petition appears to be granted. The free will of humans and laws of nature and the Universe are factors influencing the answering of prayers." I had never heard of prayer described in quite this way before. But, I like it. Dr. McLean also discusses the appropriateness of prayer, how prayer works and tells stories of personal experiences.

So, Ascension Journey is truly a spiritual guidebook containing much significant information for our time. From my favorite chapter on Self-Protective Practices to Discernment, Kundalini Awakening and the Power of Prayer, it is worth the effort to travel through this book via reading it in small amounts at a time or voraciously! This manual is both spiritually informative and practical. The stories of personal experiences along the way are very interesting.

I suggest people who have practised meditation, psychic and healing work for a few years, go and read this book to enhance your knowledge and achieve a more balancing way of your spiritual practice.

Ascension is a hot topic in recent days. Dr. Mclean has done an excellent job in writing this book, in which she selflessly share her experience and her way of healing practice in this book. Though this is not a step-by-step guide on "how to do XXX", but she still insert some brief and useful information on "how to do it". She unveils the mysterious image on doing healing for the rocks in nature, sending earth-bound entities to where they should go, healing the pass-on souls who have gone through emotional trauma and shocks by soul retrieval, purification and releasing to a higher dimension, and scanning different layers of aura etc.

And the most fundamental aim of writing her book is that she introduce many different ways of pursuing soul ascension and life purposes of man. Although she has her own belief and practice, she still respect and embrace without judgment and discrimination to all the ways leading to the truth of the universe and life. This book is knowledge-based, full of solid information which helps us to clarify the reasons, the principles and the faulty thoughts behind all kinds of mysterious phenomena. She also states that some kind of psychic and spiritual practice is somewhat "harmful" and depleting your energy if overdoing them. Such kind of writing style is rarely found in other spiritual books, since 99% of spiritual and psychic books out there just tell you "how to do XXX", stating the positive outcome you expect, and no more. Dr. Mclean brings us back to reality, the problem we would face when we pursue our development in life and spirituality so that we could have a more balanced point of view and way of practice.

Thanks Dr. Mclean for such a great book. I'd prefer giving this book six stars if permits. Look forward to more of your books.
